How to Travel on a Beauty Budget and a Space Budget

Note: there are associate links in this post. It just means that if you click on them and purchase something, I will get a portion of the profits.

If it were up to me I would be allowed to bring a whole extra bag on trips just to make sure that I have everything I need for any skin/makeup/hair emergency. However, Chris would probably think I’m crazy and also be upset because its heavy and I would make him carry it.

Even when we just go to his parents for the weekend I still overpack beauty items before I go back and reign myself in. Will I actually use texturizing cream, hair oil, hair masks, and color enhancer? Probably not but when I’m packing all I think to myself is “What if I really want to have wavy textured hair with this dress and I don’t have the right size curing wand or my sea salt spray??????” Honestly, its not a big deal and I know that Vacation Kate probably won’t want to put in that kind of effort anyway.

So how do I balance Beauty Addict Kate and Traveler Kate?

Make use of travel size bottles

There are a lot of big brands that sell travel size versions of regular products. Whether you are looking for lotion, shaving cream, toothpaste, makeup remover, deodorant, or literally anything you can find it in the beauty section of almost every store. This is generally a great option for me.

However, if you are really attached to a certain brand of shampoo or other liquid product you can also get empty travel size bottles in the same locations. You can get these at pretty much all the same locations. Personally, I have had my eye on this set on Amazon. I like that the bottles are really good shapes and have a variety and also are a cute color. It also comes with some tools to get the extra out when you get home and get it in before you leave. If you are looking for something a little less I really recommend Amazon. They have so many options at such great prices.

Another place I like to find these is TJ Maxx. They always have cute ones at really great prices as well.

Take a minute to think about what you really need

Some people are really into getting very done up on vacation to make sure they can get the perfect Insta. To those people, I say more power to you. I, however, am not one of those people. Usually the most I will bring with me for most trips is limited to this:

Makeup: Brow pencil, eye liner and mascara

Hair: Shampoo, conditioner, hairspray, dry shampoo

Skin: Face wash, moisturizer, night cream (maybe)

Other: Shaving cream/razor, lotion, sunscreen, deodorant, toothpaste/toothbrush

Everything that is linked here are my go to-products for traveling so look for a future post about them going more in depth! For now, just know that I swear by these and don’t travel without them.

For the most part this is really all you need. The only things I might add to this list if I know that I am going somewhere really nice is some concealer and lip gloss and then maybe a curling wand.

Honestly those are my two biggest tips to making it as a beauty lover on the go. If you guys have anything else you feel like I forgot let me know!
